Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy uses essential oils from plants to heal, alleviate pain and regulate mood. Essential oils are blended with a carrier oil to create a mixture which can be used directly on the body. Aromatherapy massage involves a massage treatment using essential oils. In aromatherapy massage, essential oils are usually mixed with a carrier oil like sweet almond, apricot kernel, or grapeseed oil. For this reason essential oils are typically blended with a carrier oil - such as jojoba or grapeseed oil - in order to dilute them so they dont harm the clients skin. When using Aromatherapy massage on the scalp, put the oil on the fingertips and use the fingers, working all over the scalp. Aromatherapy massage works when essential oils are inhaled by the client. When the fragrant oils are inhaled, a chemical message is sent to the brain which triggers a certain emotional response.

Aromatherapy should not be confused with fragrances or perfume oils. Fragrances are often made from chemicals, and lack the therapuetic properties of essential oils. The combination of the senses - the emotion elicited by the scent of the essential oil and the sensation of touch - is how aromatherapy massage makes a client feel relaxed, stimulated, peaceful or euphoric, depending on their desired emotional response. Use essential oils in all massages.

Massages should be carried out with the flow of the body - towards the heart. When massaging children use gentle, comforting effleurage movements. Last, after an aerobic workout, petrissage movements are useful to release toxins and keep muscles supple. This combination can also provide stress relief and pain relief, help aid a sleeping disorder or physical condition, or energize the mind and body. They might ask about the current state of your work life, home life, physical health and mental state to learn about what you need. Following the consultation, the massage therapist will select several essential oils specific to your mental and physical conditions, and blend them into a massage oil to be used during your first massage.

AromAtherapy is the art and science of using essential oils to enhance the well-being of body, mind and spirit. These oils are extracted by the means of steam distillation, cold expression, or fixed oil or alcohol extraction. The massage technique helps muscles melt into deep relaxation, relieves water retention, de-stresses the body, mind and spirit, stimulates the lymphatic system, improves the immune response, and assists the body to naturally release toxins.

Before using pure essential oils virtually all will need to be diluted in a carrier oil to avoid any skin reactions and provide the lubrication necessary to help disperse them evenly. If essential oils are used in skin and body care, carrier oils can also be moisturising, nourishing and protecting. Massage is not only the only aromatherapeutic technique. An aromatic bath is a pleasurable way of enjoying the benefits of essential oils. Hot water opens pores and helps the body to absorb the oils more quickly. Oils such as baby oil should not be used to dilute essential oils.

Aromatherapy massage is performed on nude clients; however the therapist will leave the room so that you can undress in privacy. The only time the massage therapist will pull back the sheet is to work on a specific body part. If you are uncomfortable, please notify your massage therapist immediately.
