Gothic Hairstyles and Haircuts - Tips on Gothic Hairstyles

During the eras of Edwardian and Victorian, Gothic hairstyles are the perfect hair fashion for every woman. This type of hairstyle was also widely identical during that time. However, nowadays, Gothic styles are no longer acceptable in the communal society because a lot of people still misunderstood this type of hairstyle. For a hairstylist to make a Gothic hairstyle, he or she should have the awareness about it as what contained in the succeeding paragraphs.

Gothic hairstyles during the 80s Era

The 80s era was when the Gothic hairstyles came to life again with little touches of new styles. Largely Gothic hairstyles emphasized mysteriousness, height and being romantic. To achieve this largely styled hair, curling or crimping, teasing and back combing are the best ways to do it. But in achieving this styled hair, there are specific styles and big hair categories that still depend on treatment, cutting and styling techniques. Liberal applications of some styling aids such as hair gel, hair spray, and moulding mud with the use of hair dryers can also help in achieving a desired largely Gothic hairstyle. Other techniques of achieving a desired result in largely styled hair include the use of hair rollers, perms, curling irons, and crimping irons.

Caring for Gothic hairstyles

Caring for Gothic hairstyles is quite difficult to maintain as there are many things to consider. For this kind of hairstyle, there are two types of dreads. First is the “falls”, which are the ones being take in and out. Secondly, is the “extensions”, which are the ones braided into the hair. Whichever type of dreads you have taken for your Gothic hairstyle, you must be careful of snagging your dreads on something that will cause its tearing. Dreads are very delicate and they get destroyed easily so avoid getting them wet as well. In any case you get caught in the rain, immediately dry up your dreads into the laundry room or any warm place. If you don’t do this, the dreads will get moldy and can never be used again. Dreads can also absorb odors quickly so avoid hanging them in a smoky place. If you have dread extensions, it’s your option to wash your hair or not. But be reminded that dreads are very heavy when wet. If you decide to wash your hair, ensure that you have rinsed out all the soap in the dreads to avoid itching and irritation in the scalp. But if you decided not to wash your hair, massage your hair and scalp with the mixture of tea tree oil and water solution at least twice a week.
