Home Remedy for Head Lice
Head lice affecting the scalp (Pediculosis capitis) is a very common complication. Another name of head lice is pediculosis. Head lice are parasitic wingless insects. Head lice are very common among young children, specially in child care centres and schools. Head lice can be transferred from person to person through direct contact.
Head lice have been around for as long as humans, moving from head to head to replicate and feed. Head lice do not have a favoritism for the heads that they live on and will move easily from one to another by simply walking across when two heads are touching.
Head lice are extremely infectious. Close contact or sharing personal affiliations, such as hats or hairbrushes, puts people at risk. Children ages 3-11 and their families get head lice most often. Personal hygiene has nothing to do with getting head lice. They are simplest to see on the neck and over the ears. Tiny eggs on the hair look like flakes of dandruff. However, instead of flaking off the scalp, they stay put. Head lice can outlive up to 30 days on a human. Their eggs can live for more than 2 weeks.
Head lice live on pets, such as cats or dogs. Head lice do not jump, fly, or swim. As many as 3 million people a year in the UK ensnare head lice. Head lice infection can result in itchy head or neck, or a rash, which is often worse belatedly the ears or on the back of the neck. Young head lice (called nymphs) are mobile and molt three times, forming into mature adults in about three weeks. Adults can live for about four weeks but do not lay eggs till after seven days. Head lice do not persist off a host for more than one or two days.
Girls get head lice more usually than boys, and women more often than men. Scratching can result to skin sores and skin infections. Having head lice is not an indication of poor hygiene or low social status. They fly or hop, but they can creep very quickly.
There are a number of very effective treatments for head lice. Lotions and shampoos having permethrin are usually effective. Pyrethrin and permethrin are just safe to humans. Lindane, however, may be toxic. Products with lindane should not be used on infants or young children. Apply lice medicine, also known as pediculicide (peh-DICK-you-luh-side), coinciding to label instructions.
The only method to prevent head lice from moving onto your head would be to never have head-to-head contact with anyone with an improbable situation, particularly for children.
Except children with head lice from school or day care according to the institution’s policy. Teach children not to share combs, brushes, scarves, hair ribbons, helmets, headphones, hats, towels, bedding, clothing, or other personal items.
Home Remedy for Head Lice
1. In 1 tsp of limejuice, add 1 tsp of garlic paste and apply it all over your scalp. Keep for 30 minutes and then wash.
2. Take about 8-10 almonds and grind them to form a paste with 2-3 tsp of limejuice. Apply the paste on the scalp and let it remain for half an hour. Thereafter you can wash your head.
3. Washing hair with vinegar serves as an excellent remedy to get rid of head lice.
4. Massage your head with mayonnaise and comb your hair gently after 2 hours.
5. Apply coconut oil to your head after shampoo and condition. Add ten to fifteen drops of tea tree oil into shampoo bottle and use it daily
6. Popular home remedy for Head Lice is olive oil, and vaseline. These are usually left on overnight, often under a shower cap, and then washed out the next day.
7. Coat the hair in mayonnaise and leave on for a minimum of two hours. Wash out and comb through hair. This will not only kill the lice, but it also helps remove the eggs much easier!
