Telogen Effluvium Hair Loss
Treatment
Telogen is the name for the relaxing stage of the hair growth cycle. Telogen effluvium is a form of non-scarring alopecia distinguished by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. A telogen effluvium is when some stress causes hair roots to be pushed precociously into the resting state. Telogen effluvium can be severe or chronic. Hair growth happens in a cycle which is divided into three phases: a growth phase, a regression phase and a resting phase. Various hairs are in different stages of the cycle at any one time. Telogen effluvium may affect hair on all parts of the body, but, normally, only loss of scalp hair is symptomatic. Generally, most of the hairs are in the growth stage. In this condition, one can lose over 300 hairs per day.
When telogen effluvium occurs, a greater extent of the hairs enter the resting phase of the cycle and hair shedding is greater than normal. Chronic telogen effluvium often presents in women which actually prolong to have quite thick and moderately long hair. In most people, 5-15% of the hair on the scalp is in telogen at any given time. Telogen effluvium is incitated when a physiologic stress or hormonal variation causes a large number of hairs to enter telogen at one time. Shedding does not happen till the new anagen hairs begin to grow. The emerging hairs help to coerce the resting hairs out of the follicle. Recent confirmation suggests that the mechanism of shedding of a telogen hair is an active process which can occur autonomous of the emerging anagen hair.
Telogen effluvium can happen at any age. It is not uncommon for infants in the first months of life to savor an episode of telogen effluvium. If one has telogen effluvium then one may review the hairs on the shower or bathroom floor, pillowcase and hairbrush. The scalp will become less doltish. Hair loss will be more than normal. Hair transplantation is not an benefecial treatment for telogen effluvium. Some lotion such as minoxidil, Nizoral shampoo and Tricomin Therapy Spray to exhilarate the hair growth. Avoiding over-strenuous combing, brushing and any type of scalp massage are important. You should also assure a nutritious diet, with plenty of protein, fruit and vegetables. Eat a balanced diet which give iron, protein and other essential nutrients.
